Ningbo History Museum, with a building area of more than 30,000 square metres and a prime location next to the Yinzhou District government, is difficult to overlook. The museum, which opened in 2008, has three floors in the main body and five floors in the surrounding area.

The Ningbo Museum features Wang Shu's choice of materials with a stark contrast to the concrete slanted walls that make up the structure. Some of the materials used are recycled terracotta and clay which were salvaged from the demolition sites of olden day buildings. Wang Shu himself describes the building as a sort of hill or mountain, which connects back to the idea of utilizing the topology and the shape of the land. Concrete slanted walls give this monolith form, and the museum is organized around two central masses.

Ningbo History Museum is important in how it preserves and revitalizes the destroyed history in this region with more modern techniques. In the courtyard of the Ningbo Museum, the difference between the top wall and the bottom is a representation of the mixture of present and past. The wall, especially the sections where the red bricks are prevalent, compared to the courtyard emphasizes this mixture.

In February 2023, the live-action TV series of Three-Body became popular on the screen. The Ningbo History Museum, where the operation center of the Asian Defense Council was set, also attracted great attention.
